[A. Roerich Moscow], no date circa [1900]. Hardcover. 25.5 x 34 cm. Oblong. Bound into blue calico cloth; blind-stamped design and gilt lettering in Russian. No title page, probably as published. An album of photos. 25 leaves, each with a black and white photograph of Solovetsky Monastery or the people who live there along with a brief caption in Russian. Monks and monastic work, fishing, agriculture, and ships are all illustrated. No date noted, photographs are circa [1900]. I believe the photographs were taken by Yakov Ivanovich Leitsinger (1855-1914) known for his photographs of the Russian north and who photographed Solovki in 1888, 1895, and 1911. Uncommon, these were specially printed for high ranking visitors to the monastery in different color cloth and with the exact photographs present apparently varying between copies. Some fraying to the corners of the cloth. Binding feels a bit tender but is still holding. Very Good. Item #81450
