Paper shows varying signs of age, spotting, discoloration, and foxing. Some pages are clean while others are more heavily spotted. Previous owner's mostly obscured name on title page. "John Adams" written below "By An American Citizen" on the title page. Some of the pages are a bit unevenly cut. Newer endpapers. Good. Item #72149

First book edition written by Adams originally published in parts in Gazette of the United States. It is mainly a translation of Enrico Caterino Davila's history of the French Religious Civil Wars of 1630. Adams uses this to argue in favor of two houses of legislators as opposed to the one house used by those French revolutionaries. Rare work. Sabin 239.
