Dove did important work in the areas of physics, meteorology, induced electricity, the earth's magnetisim, optical properies of crystals. He discovered binaural beats and he also developed scientific instruments. Dove, together with H. W. Brandes formulated his "Drehungsgestz" (law of rotation, 1827), which states that the order of meteorological phenomena at a single place on the earth's surface corresponds to what would happen if there were great whirligigs rotating clockwise in the atmosphere. He was the first to find a system of weather changes. The work here is on color theory. Discusses the history of optics, interference, nature of light, absorption, spectroscopes, polarization.
