One of the pioneers of modern algebra. Grossmann's most famous work "Die Lineale Ausdehnungslehre", was largely ignored at the time of publication, but praised by Gauss and Mobius, who were however baffled by its philosophical orientation and unusual terminology. Grassmann greatly influenced the philosophers Paul Carus and Alfred North Whitehead.
