Fine copy in original plain dust jacket and original slipcase with spine label. Affixed to a front blank page is a 4 page hand writen autographed letter dated 1886 by the author Richard F. Burton in which he mentions reading the Rubiyat of Omar Khayyam. Work is wriiten by Sir Richard F. Burton although he claims it is a translation of Persian text. He used it as an attempt to bring Sufist ideas to the west. Facsimile of the 1880 edition. Very light edgewear to the top of jacket spine and well as some light soiling to the rear jacket cover. Previous owner was a scholar who underlined some text in light pencil; these have been erased without damaging the text but some "ghosting" remains. Previous owner's bookplate and small date stamp on front fixed endpaper. Near Fine in Near Fine jacket and slipcase. Item #58959
